Shoegasms

I love shoes, duh! I love all kinds of shoes - flats, pumps, boots, mules, sandals, wedges, peep-toe, closed-toe, d'Orsay and even flip-flops. After many years and much more dollars, euros and other foreign currencies - I have a few pre-requisites for any shoes that I actually buy. First of all, they have to look hot and more importantly (regardless of how hot, they look, a lesson worth learning) they must be comfortable. I have a collection of uncomfortable beautiful shoes that cost a small fortune. This doesn't work. Moreover, (if you've got a fat wallet, this doesn't apply, but for us bargain savvy girls) the shoe should be timeless. Yes, trends are great, but you don't want to discard a $400 shoe after one season. I have shoes from 5 years ago
that when worn out still receive compliments. The key is originality - the Tory Burch flat with the gold (or silver) emblem doesn't fly. I have a pair of Tory Burch flats that were bought because I needed flats but they are straw with a white beaded flower and the only way to see the Tory emblem is to make me take off the shoe.

Don't be afraid of color. You have a black closet, I'm sure. We've all taken up the new diet of wearing black, so let your feet have some fun! Buy green boots, orange Jimmy Choos and red pumps. You can dress up any boring, I mean classic black outfit. Pair it with a charming bag and you're set! Remember accessories are key. Better pair an H&M top with Manolos and a Louis Vuitton, then a Gucci dress with Steve Madden pumps. Get my drift?

There's a saying that "men who design women's shoes should be forced to wear them." Well, there are quiet a few men that know what a woman's foot should feel like. A few of my favorite men include Gianmarco, Jimmy and Manolo. There are still plenty of men I'd love to meet, but in my high-heeled practice of the last decade those are pretty solid investments. Not all shoes will be comfortable for everyone. Someone has a wide foot, someone has a high arch, someone has a long toe, etc. Shoes, should be a representation of the different sides of your personality and therefore compliment YOU. If you have a hammer toe, please don't wear sandals. Same goes for unpedicured feet. A pedicure doesn't mean polish on your toes, ladies! A larger calf shouldn't give rise to a muffin top of your sexy boot and please, please wear shoes your size. Celebrities get free samples and they may be off a half or a full size, but if you're buying a $500 shoe, buy your own size! Too big is no better than too small and if it just doesn't fit, keep looking, there are many more shoes in the pond.

Unfortunately, my long time favorite shoe-store, Petit Peton recently closed (with a pair of my boots). I had a shoegasm almost every time I was there including my last purchase there of Giuseppe (another good man) pumps, boots and a pair of Luca boots. Maybe I'm getting Carried Away (pun intended), but I sure do love my shoes. Sigh. In my preliminary packing, I'm down to 10 pairs (flip-flops not included), what's a girl to do? Sigh. You see what you started???

Seasons

For the first time in my recent memory, we actually have autumn. We didn't go from blistering heat to unbearable cold, we are transitioning. Many people, however are having a hard time transitioning their closets. New York weather has always and will
always be unpredictable, but that's not an excuse to be wearing flip-flops when it's 54 degrees outside. Similarly, when the weather drops from 80 to 70 degrees, it doesn't give you an excuse to dig out your Uggs or Valenki.

New York is a city of contrasts and if you think you haven't seen weird just get on a rush-hour train. For example, there's a man sitting across from me who is perfectly color-coordinated - wearing olive green pants with a buttondown shirt that's just a shade (or two) lighter. Topping his outfit off. is not the rings and bracelets on his
hands and not even his yellow tie, but a matching fedora hat. (I think he felt me blogging about him and got out on the last stop). Within my field of vision are sneakers, loafers, flip-flops, boots and the ever-famous Tory Burch flats (what's up with EVERYONE wearing them? They are not that cute!). There are T-shirts, long sleeves, trench-coats, wool coats, sweatshirts and blazers.

My own closet went through a major overhaul last weekend as I was off and the seasons changed. Now I can wear all my cute jackets and shoes. This is the best weather for shoes as long as it doesn't rain! And even if it does, I have a great pair of boots! I love fall.

Valenki

I got this link through my ever-so-thoughtful google quick links. Why the hell would you need Valenki in the states? Then again, Uggs became so popular despite their ugliness, maybe the valenki & galoshi will catch on as well. I mean who wouldn't want to walk the streets of Manhattan sporting a hammer and sickle on their shoes.

Will work for shoes...

Yes, that's me - workaholic who can't resist a beautiful pair of stilettos, boots, sandals, flats, etc. So after my wonderful aftertoon of drinking mimosas, nibbling on hors d'oeuvres while cruising around Manhattan mingling with my co-workers and our group's high profile client, I did what any sensible girl would do - I went shopping! (Was that a really bad run-on?) My feet were killing me from walking around in my Manolo's and luckily I bought a very cute pair of flats (amongst other things), which I wore straight out of Loehmann's. Besides, the fact that my feet were killing me, the flats are cute and I finally used up my store credit from last year, I got my 15% off birthday discount and who doesn't love a bargain?

Then, on to making a great "business" deal left me a few short blocks from one of the very best(est) shoe stores in NYC, Petit Peton [note to self, add hyperlink]. The guy forgot his name, again, damnit) was super helpful and why wouldn't he be, I walked out with [technically] two pairs of boots and a pair of Zanotti sandals to die for. So its
been a very productive evening, to say the least. Maybe I should buy a lottery ticket? Happy (almost) birthday to me!

Manolos, Loboutin, Choos and other Such Shoes

Most people are well aware of my weakness - shoes . . . Whether they are knee high boots, strappy sandals, casual flats or daring stillettos - it's "OMIGOD SHOES!" While I'm a proud ownder of Manolos, Choos and other known and not so well known designers, I'm yet to own a pair of Loboutins. As Carrie says on one infamous episode of Sex and the City while passing the Loubotin boutique in New York, "Hello Lover." I pass by Saks every day on my way to work and although I try to stop myself from making frequent visits to the enormous 8th floor shoe salon, sometimes a girl needs a lunchtime pick me up!

I'm not sure why I'm writing about shoes, mainly because they make me happy. And now that spring has sprung and it seems that all of Manhattan is wearing skirts - shoes are that much more evident. Speaking of skirts and Manhattan - if you DO NOT have the legs to wear a skirt, please put on Pants! It seems that everyone and I mean EVERYONE is wearing a skirt, a dress or tights and I'm all for "if you've got it flaunt it," but if you don't, please for all of us, cover it up! :-)

New Jimmy Choos

So lunching is as fun as ever when there are sales everywhere. I just bought another pair, of guess what? Yep, shoes. I got Jimmy Choo "Texas," which after doing some quick googling I found that Jennifer Lopez wore to the Golden Globes...ah the celebrity life...

I can't find the shoe online in Camel, the color I got it in, which looks much better than the black, I guess I'll have to put up my own picture along with a picture of a recent picture of my first manolos. :-)
