“Love is the irresistible desire to be irresistibly desired.” -Robert Frost

After one too many drinks or perhaps not enough, an interesting conversation arose last night - What is Love?

While I am no expert and cannot answer a question that's been asked since beginning of time, there are a few factors to ponder:

1. Is true love always tragic?
2. Does true love really exist (outside of plays, novels, movies & other pop culture mediums)?
3. Does every person experince love during their lifetime?
4. Is your first love the strongest?

More thoughts to come...for now an interesting piece of reading...

Have you ever been in love? Horrible isn't it? It makes you so vulnerable. It opens your chest and it opens your heart and it means that someone can get inside you and mess you up. You build up these defenses, you build this whole suit of armor, so that nothing can hurt you, then one stupid person, no different from any other stupid person, wanders into your stupid life. You give them a piece of you. They didn't ask for it. They do something dumb one day, like kiss you or smile at you, and then your life isn't your own any more. Love takes hostages. It gets inside you. It eats you out and leaves you crying in the darkness, working its way into your heart. It hurts. Not just in the imagination. not just in the mind. It's a soul hurt, a body hurt, a real gets inside you and rips you apart pain. I hate love. - Neil Gaiman

  2. Ater pondering on this for some time I have found the definition for love. ENJOY!

    LOVE, n.
A temporary insanity curable by marriage or by removal of the patient from the influences under which he incurred the disorder. This disease, like caries and many other ailments, is prevalent only among civilized races living under artificial conditions; barbarous nations breathing pure air and eating simple food enjoy immunity from its ravages. It is sometimes fatal, but more frequently to the physician than to the patient.

  3. According to ancient Greek culture, there are four kinds of “love” -AGAPE, PHILEO, STORGE, and EROS.

Agape love is an unconditional love. It loves and cares when there is no apparent reason to care. Example is the type of love God shows toward us.

Phileo love is that “something” that you see in another person that draws you to be their friend.

Storge is a physical show of affection like Hug and Kiss that results from a pure motive.

Eros is the fulfillment of the physical sexual desire that a husband and wife show toward each other.

  6. Философия любви...
    ------------------

  10. Basic Principles: There are none

Just finished watching the movie "Hitch," corny as it may be there are no rules when it comes to love. We all do stupid things and it is the stupid things that we do when we are with the one we love that make them fall in love with us...that is if we are all so lucky.

  11. Maybe we all just overcomplicate the definition of love. I like Brian's definition..."Love is something big in your heart." <3

  14. Triangular theory of love : love has three different components: Intimacy, Commitment, and Passion. Intimacy is a form where two people can share secrets and various details of their personal lives. Intimacy is usually shown in friendships and romantic love affairs. Commitment on the other hand is the expectation that the relationship is going to last forever. The last and most common form of love is simply sex, or passion. Passionate love is shown in infatuation as well as romantic love. This led researchers such as Yela to further refine the model by separating Passion into two independents components: Erotic Passion and Romantic Passion.

More lovely than all other womanhood, luminous, perfect
A star coming over the sky-line at new year, a good year,
Splendid in colors, with allure in the eye's turn.
    Her lips are enchantment, her neck the right length and her breasts a marvel;

Her hair lapis lazuli in its glitter, her arms more splendid than gold.
Her fingers make me see petals, the lotus' are like that.
Her flanks are modeled as should be, her legs beyond all other beauty.
    Noble her walking
My heart would be a slave should she enfold me.

  15. Жить с человеком, которого любишь, также трудно,
как любить человека, с которым живешь.

  18. "Do you want me to tell you something really subversive? Love is everything it's cracked up to be. That's why people are so cynical about it. It really is worth fighting for, being brave for, risking everything for. And the trouble is, if you don't risk anything, you risk even more.”
