On Friendship

When we honestly ask ourselves which person in our lives mean the most to us, we often find that it is those who, instead of giving advice, solutions, or cures, have chosen rather to share our pain and touch our wounds with a warm and tender hand. The friend who can be silent with us in a moment of despair or confusion, who can stay with us in an hour of grief and bereavement, who can tolerate not knowing, not curing, not healing and face with us the reality of our powerlessness, that is a friend who cares. ~Henri Nouwen

The friend who holds your hand and says the wrong thing is made of dearer stuff than the one who stays away. ~Barbara Kingsolver

A loyal friend laughs at your jokes when they're not so good, and sympathizes with your problems when they're not so bad. ~Arnold H. Glasgow

If you're alone, I'll be your shadow. If you want to cry, I'll be your shoulder. If you want a hug, I'll be your pillow. If you need to be happy, I'll be your smile. But anytime you need a friend, I'll just be me. ~Author Unknown

I'm Busy . . .

School, work, boyfriend/girlfriend/husband/wife, other friends, priorities, families. We all have stuff going on in our lives and usually sh*t hits the fan (I apologize for the cliche) when we least expect it, but how difficult is it to return a phone call? to make time for your friends? or go grab a drink and chill out. I've been there and I'm still there, the whole, school, work, full time, part time, whatever, I've done it, just like everyone else and NO, I don't put myself on a pedestal because I know very few people that work full time while attending school full time, while having sh*t hit the fan all the time, but at the same time, not one of my friends, yet got mad at me for not returning a call. It may not be the same day, or sometimes maybe even the same week, because I'm busy, just like everyone else.

"Where there's a will, there's a way." and I have no idea who said it.

I value the friend who for me finds time on his calendar, but I cherish the friend who for me does not consult his calendar. ~Robert Brault
One of the very nicest things about life is the way we must regularly stop whatever it is we are doing and devote our attention to eating. ~Luciano Pavarotti and William Wright, Pavarotti, My Own Story

Skol'ko mozhno zhrat'? Net, ne kushat', a zhrat'?!?

All we seem to be doing is eating.

-What are we doing tonight?
-Let's go eat!

-What are the plans for the weekend?
-Going out to a restaurant.

-Your birthday?
-Going out to eat

NADOELO!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Don't get me wrong, I love to eat as much as the next guy. I love great food and fancy restaurants. I love a good burger and an old fashioned NYC hot dog lunch, but there's more to life than food. We live in New York and besides knowing what's the best new sushi spot, the trendiest hot-spot or the best new asian fusion restaurant, we don't know anything about museums or galleries, shows or movies, bands or exhibits.

What about my great example about a picnic in the park, with a few good friends, a volleyball on a beautiful summer day? What about a trip to the beach? What about a drive to go rafting? What about so many things and yes, we'd eat there too.

Happiness is a bowl of cherries and a book of poetry under a shade tree. ~Astrid Alauda

I give up. I officially give up. I offerred through my blog and through many an email to go see a bunch of great shows that are out and tickets that I could get at a good price. I'm tired of running after everyone, from now on, if you want to see something, YOU call ME, I'm always down. Until then, I'll be going alone.

Middle of Nowhere. . .

So, I am in the middle of nowhere, Montvale, NJ. Although, (supposedly) I'm only half an hour away from the city, an hour away from home and half an hour from Woodbury, being here, especially without a car kind of sucks. I feel like I'm back in school - in fast forward. Today was killer. It was a looooooooooong day, with few breaks, a freezing room and an exam to top it all of. I'm mentally drained and have two more days of this nonsense. Room service for dinner will complete my wonderful day. If anyone is really bored on Friday and wants to get me out of this hell at about 3, do let me know. :-)

On a lighter note, it's really not that bad.

More Stuff to See . . .

A friend just informed me of two good shows in a cool atmosphere. He went to see La Vie yesterday and truly enjoyed it. Take a look:
La Vie
La Vie is a cabaret... on the outskirts of life. Before exiting either upstage or downstage, the players are literally dying to prove themselves. Flying high above the audience, the MC cajoles the players to act out unfulfilled fantasies, reveal hidden taboos and indulge unrequited passions. The final judgement is up to you. Remember, someone's hell is another's heaven.
Montreal's sizzling circus-arts theatre company, Les 7 Doigts de la Main, will present the first ever theatro-batic show hand crafted for a Spiegeltent. Four years ago, seven extraordinary performers from Cirque du Soleil and beyond formed the company which has since captivated audiences around the globe. Their mix of life-threatening aerial acrobatics, wild characters and wicked music will ignite the intimate Speigelworld stage.
"The gently unorthodox, intelligently wry and breathtaking skillful wonder of the `new circus` experience called `7 Fingers`. If this is the circus of the 21st century, things are looking up." -Robert Hurwitt, San Francisco Chronicle

Absinthe
Combining the traditions of vaudeville and music hall with Berliner Kabarett, ABSINTHE: LES ARTISTES DE LA CLIQUE is a variety show in which sultry Fairground attractions collide with sexy sideshow burlesque. The show takes place in a Spiegeltent residing at the Fulton Fish Market, at South Street under the Brooklyn Bridge. From their beginnings in Belgium at the turn of the last century, these iconic tents have been traveling the world as part of arts festivals and fairs. Please note: all tickets are for general admission seating.
"The warped burlesque circus show ABSINTHE is Cirque du Soleils younger sister - more brash, less inhibited and more naked...far raunchier, funnier and more intimate than its better-known Quebecois forerunner. The performers in "Absinthe" run the gamut from singers, jugglers, sword swallowers, men of unusual strength, and women of unusual beauty and dexterity. But there is a twist with nearly every act, something that makes you question how they even conceived of the idea, let along practiced it every day." - Associated Press
"On the tiny stage a young man with a breathtaking body languidly performs acrobatics, pulling himself out of a bathtub by bands suspended from the roof and spinning himself over the heads of the public, who are liberally sprinkled with water from his sopping-wet jeans. His act typifies the blend of skill, erotic innuendo and zaniness that characterizes Absinthe, part cabaret, part circus" - The New York Times
"Do whatever it takes to get a front-row seat. This is cabaret blinged up to the max and an unmissable evenings entertainment. The Scotsman
Sensational yet intimate...experience so rich...in a word, fabulous. The Sunday Telegraph, London
The years most extravagant and endearing must-see. The Austrailian

New Jimmy Choos

So lunching is as fun as ever when there are sales everywhere. I just bought another pair, of guess what? Yep, shoes. I got Jimmy Choo "Texas," which after doing some quick googling I found that Jennifer Lopez wore to the Golden Globes...ah the celebrity life...

I can't find the shoe online in Camel, the color I got it in, which looks much better than the black, I guess I'll have to put up my own picture along with a picture of a recent picture of my first manolos. :-)

Another cool looking show . . .

SESSIONS

Peter Jay Sharp Theatre, 416 West 42nd Street, NYC

This new musical by Albert Tapper is a look into vignettes of therapy sessions conducted by a genuinely caring practitioner. Dr. Peter Peterson listens, advises and cajoles patients who experience marital squabbles, physical and emotional abuse, and innocent and harmless neuroses. The group includes a bickering couple whose marriage just won't go away, a rich kid who found his voice in Bob Dylan, a reluctant man who has longed for the same woman for 15 years, a young woman who has spent so much time in therapy she might get out, a billionaire who finds no solace in his money, a strong willed woman with a dark secret, and a provocative siren in high heels. At the end of the day, Peterson questions his own abilities which he discusses with his own therapist. Sessions offers a look into the familiar worlds of self-help, personal growth and those long hours that many have spent on a therapists couch. The cast features Bertilla Baker (Titanic), Amy Bodnar (Oklahoma!), Al Bundonis, David Patrick Ford, Scott Richard Foster (Brooklyn the Musical), Jim Madden (Hello, Dolly!), Kelli Maguire (A Wonderful Life), Trisha Rapier (The Boy from Oz), Matthew Shepard (Beauty and the Beast) and Ed Reynolds Young, under the directions of Steven Petrillo.

On Friendship. . .

From a recent conversation with an old friend. . .

"I for one refuse to couple up and decide that its time to be bored to death. I think there should be a bit more to life other than waiting to get married and breed."

and my sinister reply:

well, let me break it down for you. . .

when you first meet someone, you want to spend all the time with that person - getting to know them, being intimate, etc.

then, you want to introduce each other to friends and end up going out all the time . . .

then, you are coupled, and your friends are coupled, and single friends sort of drop out because now you do things as couples

and then when for whatever reason you show up stag it's like, where's your better half? I am the better half, damn it!

and after all that you settle into coupledom, where you've gotten older and not necessarily wiser, but you just fall into the mundane things of life and going out even on a Friday night requires a lot of effort without an occasion and on a weeknight, tak forget it.

don't forget one essential thing, ne vse takie kak ti i ya :-D

"Well true as this may be, I have met people nearly twice our age who regardless coupled or not get together almost every single day and enjoy each others' company, so that's going to be my plan as well, and whoever wants to stay home and rot well more power to them, I REFUSE to submit to the mundane."
____________________________
We all submit to the mundane and everyday life. We all fall victim to bailing on our closest friends for our significant others. People always have excuses: "I'm too tired," "I need to wash my hair," "I need to walk my dog," "I have work/school tomorrow." Well so does everybody, we are all so busy that we tend to lose track of what's really important in life and taking the time to spend with friends be it through a quick email, a long telephone conversation or an old fashioned face-to-face meeting. Getting together with friends shouldn't be a process that often takes hours and even days, it should be,

"We're going here with them, come join."

"Ok, See you there."

But yet again we don't live in a perfect world. . .

I share the hope of fun times, interesting conversations, good food and more importantly, true friendship, "I hope to meet more people that are willing to meet up on a random day of the week and just hang out, be it at home or elsewhere." Be it at 2 in the afternoon or 5 in the morning.

A Few Accounting Jokes :-D

What's the definition of an accountant?
Someone who solves a problem you didn't know you had in a way you don't understand.

How do you drive an accountant completely insane?
Tie him to a chair, stand in front of him and fold up a roadmap the wrong way.

What do accountants suffer from that ordinary people don't?
Depreciation.

Why do accountants make good lovers?
They're great with figures.

"One Goes In Straightforward Ways"

One goes in straightforward ways,
One in a circle roams:
Waits for a girl of his gone days,
Or for returning home.

But I do go -- and woe is there --
By a way nor straight, nor broad,
But into never and nowhere,
Like trains -- off the railroad.

Web Crash 2007

Where's Everybody???

It's 1:26 am and I'm still working on my stupid presentation for work, which Chuck (partner) said I did a really good job on, so now I really can't mess up. Him and Eugene (senior manager and also, my performance manager) have a competion going now whose presentation will be better, mine or a colleague's. Fun Stuff.

Well, no not really.

Spent 2 hours putting in an ethernet card, reinstalling my cable modem and connecting the wireless router so that Danik's new laptop and Xbox 360 could have an internet connection, but no such luck. It's a wonder my PC is working. I just didn't have the energy to deal with the wireless anymore and I needed to get to my presentation, which I'm yet again procrastinating doing and nobody is online to talk to, to cheer me up. grrr...

At least tomorrow errr today is Friday. Friday, the Thirteenth. Whooopeee. My favorite day of the year or not. Anyway, it's going to rain, so no day off, no beach, dinner with Ezra peeps, who's going btw?

1:30 am . . . back to REIT ANALYSIS, how exciting...grrrr

“You don't write because you want to say something, you write because you have something to say.” -F. Scott Fitzgerald

Just finished watching another Woody Allen movie, Husbands and Wives. First of all, I totally love Woody Allen. Second, his dark comedies are always insightful and at the end of the day it's really whatever works for you. No two people are alike and definitely no two relationships and if you can make it together in this crazy world, and fnd your happiness, somehow, well then be it.

And here's a few of my favorite Woody Allen quotes (no entry would be complete without them)

-I tended to place my wife under a pedestal.

-I think being funny is not anyone's first choice.

-Marriage is the death of hope.

-I want to tell you a terrific story about oral contraception. I asked this girl to sleep with me and she said 'No.'

-I've never been an intellectual but I have this look.

-Is sex dirty? Only if it's done right.

-It seemed the world was divided into good and bad people. The good ones slept better while the bad ones seemed to enjoy the waking hours much more.

-Love is the answer, but while you're waiting for the answer, sex raises some pretty interesting questions.

-Sex is like having dinner: sometimes you joke about the dishes, sometimes you take the meal seriously.

-I will always have this penchant for what I call kamikaze women. I call them kamikazes because they, you know they crash their plane, they're self-destructive. But they crash into you, and you die along with them. (Gabe Roth, Husbands and Wives)

Lucky Sevens

While I didn't make it to AC today (unfortunately, I have a presentation to do), hopefully today is a lucky today for many people. It's probably the most popular wedding day ever, so congratulations to those who are getting married today. And to my dear friend, Bor'ka, Happy 25th Birthday (tomorrow)! All the very best!

and the significance behind the seven:

Seven is often associated with luck, the way thirteen is associated with misfortune. Eastern religions have seven virtues and seven deadly sins. The Book of Revelation has its Seven Seals. There are seven wonders of the world and lucky seven is an instant win on the first roll at the casino game, craps. We have 7 skies, 7 heavens, 7 seas, 7 colors of the rainbow, 7 days in the week, 7 dwarves and becoming 7 years old is considered to be a turning point in child development. Also, (apparently) there's the so called 7-year-itch in marriage. Sevens are also my favorite brand of jeans :-)

Kabbalah teaches that 7 represents wholeness and completion. After 7 days, the world was complete. There are 6 directions in our world: north, south, east, west, up and down. Add to that the place where you are, and you have a total of 7 points of reference. The fact that the Torah begins with a verse containing 7 words and 28 letters (divisible by 7) is hardly remarkable. There are many other references to seven in the Jewish Religion.

BEING TWENTY - SOMETHING

(Read the whole thing, it's worth it)

They call it the "Quarter-life Crisis." It is when you stop going along with the crowd and start realizing that there are many things about yourself that you didn't know and may not like. You start feeling insecure and wonder where you will be in a year or two, but then get scared because you barely know where you are now.

You start realizing that people are selfish and that, maybe, those friends that you thought you were so close to aren't exactly the greatest people you have ever met, and the people you have lost touch with are some of the most important ones. What you don't recognize is that they are realizing that too, and aren't really cold, catty, mean or insincere, but that they are as confused as you.

You look at your job... and it is not even close to what you thought you would be doing, or maybe you are looking for a job and realizing that you are going to have to start at the bottom and that scares you.

Your opinions have gotten stronger. You see what others are doing and find yourself judging more than usual because suddenly you realize that you have certain boundaries in your life and are constantly adding things to your list of what is acceptable and what isn't. One minute, you are insecure and then the next, secure. You laugh and cry with the greatest force of your life. You feel alone and scared and confused. Suddenly, change is the enemy and you try and cling on to the past with dear life, but soon realize that the past is drifting further and further away, and there is nothing to do but stay where you are or move forward.

You get your heart broken and wonder how someone you loved could do such damage to you. Or you lie in bed and wonder why you can't meet anyone decent enough that you want to get to know better. Or maybe you love someone but love someone else too and cannot figure out why you are doing this because you know that you aren't a bad person. One night stands and random hook ups start to look cheap. Getting wasted and acting like an idiot starts to look pathetic.

You go through the same emotions and questions over and over, and talk with your friends about the same topics because you cannot seem to make a decision. You worry about loans, money, the future and making a life for yourself... and while winning the race would be great, right now you'd just like to be a contender!

What you may not realize is that everyone reading this relates to it. We are in our best of times and our worst of times, trying as hard as we can to figure this whole thing out...

If you figure it out, please feel free to leave a comment :-)

It is hard to believe that a man is telling the truth when you know that you would lie if you were in his place. -Henry Louis Mencken

Is honesty really the best policy?

By being honest we often hurt the people that mean to us most. So, it's choosing the lesser of the two evils - lying or inflicting pain on our loved ones. How do you choose, though?

We tell lies when we are afraid... afraid of what we don't know, afraid of what others will think, afraid of what will be found out about us. But every time we tell a lie, the thing that we fear grows stronger. ~Tad Williams

The cruelest lies are often told in silence. ~Adlai Stevenson

If we were all given by magic the power to read each other's thoughts, I suppose the first effect would be to dissolve all friendships. ~Bertrand Russell

Speak the truth, but leave immediately after. ~Slovenian Proverb

There's one way to find out if a man is honest - ask him. If he says, "Yes," you know he is a crook. ~Groucho Marx

R-E-N-T "No Day Like Today"

Just finished watching RENT, the movie. Although, I wasn't crazy about the musical, the movie gave me a new perspective on how short life really is. While, we all realize that there's no day like today we often live for tomorrow while reminiscing yesterday. When I was graduating high school, I wrote in everyone's yearbook:

"Yesterday is history,
Tomorrow is a mystery
and Today is a gift,
That's why they call it
The Present."

Today, really is a present and here are the lyrics of my favorite song from the movie,

MIMI
Without you, the ground thaws, the rain falls, the grass grows.
Without you, the seeds root, the flowers bloom,
The children play. The stars gleam, the poets dream, the eagles fly, without you.
The earth turns, the sun burns, but I die, without you.
Without you, the breeze warms, the girl smiles, the cloud moves.
Without you, the tides change, the boys run, the oceans crash.
The crowds roar, the days soar, the babies cry, without you.
The moon glows, the river flows, but I die, without you.

ROGER
The world revives,

MIMI
Colors renew,

BOTH
But I know blue, only blue, lonely blue, within me blue

MIMI
Without you. Without you the hand gropes, the ear hears, the pulse beats.

ROGER
Without you, the eyes gaze, the legs walks, the lungs breath.
The mind churns!

MIMI
The mind churns!

ROGER
The heart yearns!

MIMI
The heart yearns!

BOTH
The tears dry, without you.
Life goes on, but I'm gone.
'Cause I die, without you.

MIMI
Without you.

ROGER
Without you.

BOTH
Without you

Some More Randomness . . .

“Most people think life sucks, and then you die. Not me. I beg to differ. I think life sucks, then you get cancer, then your dog dies, your wife leaves you, the cancer goes into remission, you get a new dog, you get remarried, you owe ten million dollars in medical bills but you work hard for thirty-five years and you pay it back and then -- one day -- you have a massive stroke, your whole right side is paralyzed, you have to limp along the streets and speak out of the left side of your mouth and drool but you go into rehabilitation and regain the power to walk and the power to talk and then -- one day -- you step off a curb at Sixty-seventh Street, and BANG you get hit by a city bus and then you die. Maybe.”

"The excesses of hope must be expiated by pain; and expectations improperly indulged, must end in disappointment. If it be asked, what is the improper expectation which it is dangerous to indulge, experience will quickly answer, that it is such expectation raised as is dictated not by reason, but by desire; expectations raised, not by the common occurrences of life, but by the wants of the expectant; an expectation that requires the common course of things to be changed, and the general rules of action to be broken." Johnson: Letter to Baretti (June 10, 1761)

"Existence is prior to essence. Man is nothing at birth and throughout his life he is no more than the sum of his past commitments. To believe in anything outside his own will is to be guilty of 'bad Faith.' Existentialist despair and anguish is the acknowledgement that man is condemned to freedom. There is no God, so man must rely upon his own fallible will and moral insight. He cannot escape choosing." -Jean Paul Sartre

By the time you swear you're his,
Shivering and sighing,
And he vows his passion is
Infinite, undying--
Lady, make a note of this:
One of you is lying.

- Dorothy Parker
“I wanted a perfect ending. Now, I’ve learned, the hard way, that some poems don’t rhyme & some stories don’t have a clear beginning, middle & end. Life is about not knowing, having to change, taking the moment & making the best of it, without knowing what’s going to happen next. Delicious ambiguity.” — Gilda Radner

Just Some Witty Sayings for an Insane World :-)

From a Not So Distant Past. . .

Some more poems I found that I wrote awhile back. . .

* * *
Wrap your arms around my waist
Let your kisses engulf me
I'm drowning in your taste
Please don't wake me.

* * *
Endless
Our conversations
Mindless
Our words
Passionate
Our kisses
Infinite
Our friendship
Crazy
Our feelings
Impossible
Our world

* * *
Tears of sorrow
Tears of pain
Are pouring down
My window pane

This is fury
This is madness
My dear friend
It's pure sadness

* * *
Your eyes pierce through me
Your kiss is full of passion
Your hands feel my heart
Your words vanish my ration

How did we get here and why?
It didn't yet begin and I cannot say goodbye
You leave me longing more
Somebody shut the door
